Last month Abi received a couple of new books from Harper Collins to review, The School for Good and Evil and A World Without Princes. Every night, without fail, she gets into bed and reads at least one chapter before falling asleep. She has almost finished the second book and from what she tells me, they have both been been incredibly exciting and bursting with adventures and fairytale dreams!
'One Witch Girl. One Princess. One Happily Never After.'
The School for Good and Evil series tell the story of a couple of best friends, Agatha and Sophie, who have grown up in the village of Gavaldon surrounded by a folktale of Kidnap, witches and fairy tales! This book is described as being a fairy tale with a dark and enchanting twist. Sophie is the blonde girl, a typical girly princess character and dreams of going to the school for good, where as Agatha is the darker character, who lives in a graveyard and everyone avoids! When the girls are taken they find themselves in the wrong school, or so they think!
Every morning at breakfast time, Abi tells me about the latest thing to have happened with Sophie and Agatha! I love seeing her excitement as she explains all the goings on with the two girls. Book one - The School for Good and Evil is available to buy here for just £5.99. With almost 500 pages split into 30 chapters, Abi has been struggling to put it down at night, she describes it as a 'page turner' and she is always keen to read on and find out what has happened. The School for Good and Evil features small print and very few graphics inside, making it an ideal book for older children, right through to adults! These books truly sound fascinating and I plan to read them myself after Abi has finished the second book.

The second book in the series, A World Without Princes, continues telling the tales of Agatha and Sophie. The girls have escaped and are back in the village of Gavaldon, until the gates to the School of Good and Evil open once again but now the two schools (based in separate castles) have changed to the school of boys and girls!
Abi is still working her way through this book but is enjoying it just as much as the first book. She loves the friendship between the two girls and as a parent, I love that these books encourage and show the bond between female friends! Book two, A World Without Princes, is available to buy here for just £5.99. Like book one, this book features small print with minimal graphics. There are over 400 pages across the 24 chapters. This second book was only published a couple months ago but I can't wait to see if there will be more titles in this gripping series!
These books have been gripping and exciting for my almost-nine year old to read. The School for Good and Evil seem to sweep her up and take her away into her own little fairytale land. (Which is everything I encourage in a good children's book!) I can't wait to make a start on them myself and I truly hope the author, Soman Chainani, takes Sophie and Agatha on many more adventures in the future!
