Recently a wonderful little UK publishing company called My Little Big Town asked if we would like to review some children's books. Both of my girls absolutely love reading. They both have overflowing bookcases in their bedrooms as well as rows of shelves, filled with my childhood books! So of course we couldn't wait to add our My Little Big Town books to their collections.
My Little Big Town pride themselves on providing books that children want to read. We received Anisha's Adventures in Bangladesh, which can be found here for £7.99 and Pale Henry, which can be found here for £4.99. The girls absolutely love both of them.
Anisha's Adventures in Bangladesh:
"She loves to learn as much as she can, whether it's about animals, plants, the weather, exciting new places and far off lands, the solar system, strange and exotic foods and songs and clothes and art..."
Written by Moinul Islam, this beautiful story is all about Anisha's magical adventure round Bangladesh. As Anisha's birthday approaches there are only two things she wants, to be able to fly and for something to help her learn about everything that she sees. With a little magic from her Grandparents, Anisha's wishes come true and she sets off on an exciting journey with her magical pet pony - Chloe. My girls really enjoyed this book. It has the perfect balance of magical fairytale and educational facts, I especially love the fact page at the back that explains more of the Bangla words. The colourful illustrations by Calvin Innes are pretty and fun and are filled with just as much detail and magic to truly compliment the story!
Pale Henry:
"Contents: A rather sickly and pale young boy called Henry, a cat, a mouse, some moths, a few old boxes, and a dusty old loft..."
Pale Henry is part of the Tiny Twisted Tales collection of short stories and poems from the rather strange mind of the Author and Illustrator, Calvin Innes. This poem is about a nine year old boy called Henry who has lived his life hidden away in the loft, too scared to go out. He finally faces his fears and heads outside just in time to see the sunrise. Henry enjoys his time outside, playing and climbing and making friends, but every weekend Henry stays in his loft because "its fun being normal... But not all of the time" Again this was an excellent read. It was fast and interesting and I especially love that it tells children that it is okay to be a little different from everyone else!
Overall we have thoroughly enjoyed reading our My Little Big Town books and will definitely be keeping an eye out for them, when book shopping in the future. Both books were entirely different, yet equally great reads. Both of my girls enjoyed reading them alone and I have loved reading them to my girls... which can't always be said with children's books, as some are rather tedious!
