Review - Chatsters Gabby

Meet Gabby, the fabulous new interactive doll available from Spinmaster. Gabby is my girls latest obsession and if I'm honest, I quite like her too! Chatsters Gabby really does interact with you. She talks,  dances, plays games, reads texts and can even video call you (using the app). The Chatsters Gabby set includes:

  • The interactive doll - Gabby
  • 6 interactive accessories - Milkshake, Cupcake, Lipstick, Eyeshadow, Puppy & Phone
  • 2 bow clips
  • Hair brush

When Gabby arrived we were all rather excited to get her out and try her! The Chatsters doll requires 4 x AA batteries (not included) which fit easily into both of her feet (you will need a screwdriver to get into her feet). The on/off switch is also located on the soles of her feet! Once switched on, Gabby springs to life and is ready to play with. My girls (6 years old & 9 years old) started playing with her and talking to her whilst I read through the instructions. Gabby is so easy to play with that my girls had no trouble navigating her touch sensors and accessories without instruction.

Gabby has five sensors and buttons located on and around her face area. The top of her head and her lips are buttons. The two hearts on her glasses and the area directly around her lips are sensors! We found all of the sensors to work extremely well and had no problems with Gabby not being able to read our actions or her accessories. To play with her interactive accessories you simply hold them near her mouth and she will start to use them. There are many games Gabby likes to play and most of these can be played using her eye sensors (located on her glasses).

My girls loved the games that Gabby plays, there are over 25 fun and challenging games to play with Gabby, some of these include: Bubble Catch, Tangle Trauma, Stop the Hiccups and Cookie Dunk. As well as playing games gabby loves getting pampered, whether it's simply giving her hair a trim (no scissors required!) or putting on her makeup, Gabby has several fun activities that she needs help with. With so much to do and play with, it was a while before my girls even asked about the app! They had been kept busy answering Gabby's questions and giving-in to all her diva commands! Using the app (which is available for free on Apple and Andriod) you can choose music for Gabby to dance to, send her personal text messages and even video call her! There are also games to play on the app and even more games and bonus content available at chatsters.com.

Overall Gabby is a great little doll. She stands at around 29cm tall, has bendable arms and wrists. She will move her head and dance to music, she even slowly rocks round in a circle when dancing! Gabby's screens (her glasses!) are clear to see and she has multiple colours and expressions! Most of Gabby's games are played on the screens and at first I thought they would be too small but she has been very well designed and her games work well in the space provided! Gabby can seem quite loud when played with on a hard surface, but she seemed much quieter when played on the carpet. There are no volume controls or head phone ports so not ideal for quiet places! Gabby is available from Smyths stores and can be bought here for £59.99. We give Gabby 4 stars because she is great fun and provides hours of entertainment but I do feel she could of done with a volume switch! I can tell Gabby will be popular this Christmas, she may seem slightly pricey but for the amount of accessories, games and enjoyment you get out of her she is more than worth it! I paid the same for a Furby last year which has sat on a shelf practically untouched since the new year, thiscertainly isn't the case with Chatsters Gabby!
